Gabriel Salazar is a Chilean historian, philosopher, sociologist, academic and researcher, born in 1936, who has taught in various faculties of the Universidad de Chile. During his youth he studied at the Liceo de Aplicación, and later at El Pedagógico (UMCE). He graduated as an historian 1960. Later he also graduated as a philosopher in 1963 and as sociologist in 1969.

Between 1970 and 1979 he was a militant in the MIR, being imprisioned and tortured in Villa Grimaldi during the first years of the dictatorship. Between 1976 and 1985 he lived in exile, and after returning to the country he has been an outstanding academic, contributing to the development of social history and publishing numerous books on topics such as constituent power.

I consider Gabriel Salazar an admirable person because he is a brilliant thinker who has contributed important theoretical tools for the understadning of contemporary Chilean society. His approach has not been that of traditional history, but of a history that, hand in hand with sociology, is dedicated to understanding the deep processes that move history. In adition, Salazar has been a person consistent with his ideals and with the struggle of the people of Chile.
