How Can Your Major Make the World a Better Place

 Sociology is a discipline that inittialy emrged in Europe. Its focus was on the scientific understanding of modern society, which was in ferment by the XIX century. However, Latin American sociology differs from European sociology, as the two societies are very different. Sociology is dedicated to the elaboration of conceptual tools that allow us to understand and improve our reality, which is social. 

In this sense, I understand my dedication to sociology as a mainly collective work, since there are many people dedicated to understanding the peculiarity of Chilean society in the XXI century. The experiences that have marked our lives, and the historical processes we are living through are common to a large part of society, and to the extent that we understand the realities and social dynamics we can think of ways to contribute to the improvement of our living conditions. 

Sociology can contribute to the achievement of a more dignified health for all people, by recognizing problems and contributing to their solution. However, some ways of approaching information related to society can be detrimental to our mental health, as issues associated with very violent processes and events are of importance, and should be considered. However, the most important thing is the way we approach and process the information we engage in researching.
